Riot Games announced Thursday that it has extended and expanded its global partnership with China-based mobile phone manufacturer OPPO and that its League of Legends Esports Championship (Worlds) will be held in China in 2025.
Financial terms of this continued partnership were not disclosed.
The news was announced at a launch event for the OPPO Find X8 series of phones on Thursday in China , where Riot Games President of Mobile and Head of China Leo Lin was in attendance. OPPO has been a partner with Riot games in the region since 2019.
“We’re proud to continue our journey with OPPO as we head into another unforgettable Worlds,” said Riot Games Global Head of LoL Esports Chris Greeley. “OPPO has been a key part of our biggest moments, and we admire their dedication to honoring our MVPs. Together, we’re excited to create even more iconic plays, thrilling moments, and shared experiences with our community that will shape the future of LoL Esports.”
Under the terms of this continuing partnership, OPPO will serve as a global presenting partner for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at both Worlds 2025 and the Mid-Season Invitational 2025.
At the Find X8 series launch event, it was also revealed that the 2025 League of Legends World Championship will be held in China. OPPO will work with Riot Games and the LoL Esports team to “support and engage local fans for this historic homecoming event,” according to a release. Riot did not disclose what city or cities Worlds 2025 might take place in, as of this writing.
Finally, Riot said it will reveal more details on Worlds 2025 as part of its Worlds 2024 Media Day, taking place in conjunction with the Worlds 2024 finals starting Nov. 2, from the O2 Arena in London.
