Riot Games announced that it has launched its second donation matching campaign with educational nonprofit DonorsChoose to support middle and high school teachers in the United States who want to incorporate gaming and esports into their curriculum.

The Riot Games Social Impact Fund will match every dollar that is donated to projects related to gaming and esports on the DonorsChoose campaign site up to $200K USD, the company said in its announcement Wednesday.

Teachers interested in tapping into funds generated from this campaign can submit project proposals that require funding for things such as console and PC purchases, programming equipment, software to teach game development, and more.

Riot said in its announcement that the goal is to support “communities where the greatest needs are,” focusing on helping teachers from “equity-focused schools where 50% or more of students come from low-income households.”

Riot also released details on last year’s campaign with DonorsChoose:

  • 528 projects received funding across 44 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Supported 329 teachers, 90 of whom had their first-ever fully funded project.
  • Funded projects benefited approximately 8,883 students across 304 schools, with 79% of the projects being from equity-focused schools.
  • Approximately 62.9% of funded projects came from teachers in grades 6-8, while 37.1% came from grades 9-12.
  • DonorsChoose saw a 102% increase in esports and gaming-related projects posted to the DonorsChoose site from the 2022-23 school year.
