Riot Games names Opera GX official browser partner of LoL Esports

Riot Games announced Monday that it has signed a global, multi-year partnership with browser platform Opera GX for League of Legends esports.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of this new partnership, Opera GX has been named the official preferred browser partner of League of Legends esports. Riot said in a release that this partnership will feature a number of “fan-facing touchpoints,” starting with the 2024 League of Legends World Championship, beginning on Sept. 25.

“Opera GX is the ideal partner for LoL Esports as they are a brand built for players, by players, and there’s no better time for us to showcase our new collaboration than during Worlds,” said Riot Games Head of Global Esports Partnerships David Mulhall. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity that this partnership brings to reimagine what an immersive and dynamic esports fan experience looks like, and we see this year as just scratching the surface of what’s possible for our brands to create together.”

For starters, Opera GX will serve as the presenting partner of “Worlds Unlocked,” a limited-edition, curated bundle of both physical and in-game items to commemorate Worlds 2024. Physical products within the Worlds Unlocked Collector’s Edition are entirely exclusive and will be unavailable for purchase outside of the set.

Opera GX will serve as an “interactive directory” of more than 75 co-streamer channels under what is being called the Co-Streamer Hub. This will centralize all the co-streaming options and filter creators by region and language. Finally, Opera GX browser users will have access to a “fan friendly, comprehensive viewing experience,” with navigation through all Worlds content and matches, enhanced stats, custom mods, and digital drops, according to the announcement.

The 2024 League of Legends World Championship will run from Sept. 25, 2024 – Nov. 2, starting with the play-ins and Swiss stage at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, the quarter finals and semifinals at the Adidas Arena in Paris, and the finals in London at the O2 Arena. More details about Worlds 2024 can be found in the Worlds 2024 Primer, which was released by Riot Games on Monday.
