Cryptocurrency software platform Exodus Movement (OTCQX: EXOD) announced Monday that it has partnered with esports organization M80 to use its Passkeys technology.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
According to a release, Passkeys will enable M80 to create cryptocurrency wallets and conduct transactions directly “on its platform” using the decentralized finance solution. Passkeys doesn’t force users to install a browser extension, provides secure login options such as FaceID and TouchID, and supports and number of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Polygon, Solana, Ethereum, Arbitrum One, Avalanche C-Chain, Base, BNB Chain, Mantle, and Optimism.
“M80’s collaboration with Exodus to integrate Passkeys is a game-changer for our esports community and traditional gaming audiences,” said Marco Mereu, CEO of M80. “This partnership allows us to lay the foundation for building the bridge into blockchain for gamers by delivering access to industry-leading security and convenience, empowering our audience to unlock the full potential of their digital and gaming assets in a secure, decentralized environment.“
The partnership is a piece in a puzzle that hints at something Web3-related (perhaps beyond its existing ecommerce offerings) that M80 appears to be building behind the scenes, separate from its main business of competing in esports competitions. In May 2023, M80 secured a $3M USD seed funding round led by ExpertDojo, with participation from VT Technology Ventures and Practical Venture Capital. At the time, the company said that some of those funds would be used to help it explore Web3 offerings, in addition to supporting the company’s competitive and content creation efforts.
