Stream Hatchet releases 2024 Q2 Livestreaming Trends Report

According to a new report from GameSquare-owned streaming analytics firm Stream Hatchet, overall consumption of content on streaming platforms is up, but the appetite for esports-specific content has trended downward ever-so-slightly.

According to data from the 2024 Q2 Live Streaming Trends Report, overall streaming consumption is up for Q2 2024 by 10% compared to the same period a year ago across streaming platforms that Stream Hatchet tracks including Twitch, Kick, YouTube, Chzzk, Rumble, Facebook, and others.

Drilling down by platform:

  • Twitch lost 10% of its market share in Q2 (YoY), falling from 70% to 60.3% and 5.1B hours watched.
  • YouTube Gaming’s share grew from 17% to 23% (YoY) and 23.4B hours watched.
  • Kick has gained a 5.5% stake of the share with 462M hours watched.
  • AfreecaTV comes in at 3.4% and 290M hours watched.
  • Chzzk is now #5 with 2.1% and 177M hours watched.
  • Other platforms accounted for around 5.3% and 451M hours watched.

Interestingly enough, the report indicates that during Q2 esports viewership on streaming platforms saw a minor 1% decline in attention, falling short by just 7M hours watched compared to Q2 2023 (654M hours watched in Q2 2024 compared to 661M hours watched in the same period a year ago. The most-watched events for Q2, according to the report:
