Big changes coming to the global League of Legends Esports ecosystem in 2025
Riot Games announced plans on Monday for a major overhaul to the global ecosystem for League of Legends Esports in 2025.
That overhaul—which a Riot rep. told The Esports Advocate in a media briefing on Thursday–is somewhat informed and inspired by what it has learned from the Valorant esports ecosystem—includes an all-new event at the beginning of the season, a consolidation of the top leagues—from eight down to five–and many other major and minor changes.
Ultimately, Riot’s plan for 2025 will be to take the eight existing leagues—LCS, CBLoL, LLA, LEC, VCS, PCS (which includes LCO and LJL), and LPL—and pare them down to five leagues, and implement a new tier-2 relegation promotion ecosystem in select regions.
