Online esports tournament organizer Champions of Champions Tour (CCT) announced Friday that it will venture into the Dota 2 tournament ecosystem with the Champions of Champions Tour Dota 2 Circuit, or CCT Dota 2. CCT is a division of GRID Esports, which began its journey into organizing its own tournaments under the CCT circuit for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2022, and this year for Counter-Strike 2.
The new circuit will kick off on June 24, running until July 3, and will offer a total prize pool of $400K USD. CCT Dota 2 Season 1 features eight online tournaments, with official tournament dates announced in the future. Each tournament will feature 12 invited teams and a $50K prize pool.
“Dota has a special place in many hearts at GRID and that shows in our long history of Dota support through GRID’s data infrastructure and the Esports Solutions team. We’re excited to integrate this iconic title into our own premier tournament brand this summer,” said GRID Chief Procurement Officer Charlie Hanley-Nickolls, in a release. “The CCT has established its role as an important part of Valve’s CS2 ecosystem and being able to expand the circuit means more opportunities for fans, players, and talent!”
The format for each tournament will be as follows:
Phase 1 – Groups:
- Two groups of five teams
- Round-Robin, Best-of-three matches
- Top three teams per group progress to Playoffs
Phase 2 – Playoffs:
- Eight teams: top six from Groups + two direct invites
- Double-Elimination Bracket, Best-of-three matches
- Best-of-five Grand Finals
In each tournament first place will receive $30K; second place, $10K; third place, 7.5K; and fourth place, $2.5K.
The initial invited teams, talents, and partners are to be announced. Matches will be broadcast live on twitch.tv/cct_dota.
This is not the first time GRID’s Esports Solutions division has managed operations on a Dota 2 competition; it has handled the HomeSweetHome CS and Dota 2 tournament series since 2020, and the Pinnacle Cup from 2021 – 2023. GRID also has exclusive data rights & integrity partnerships with the Dota Pro Circuit, WePlay, Valve’s The International, Global Esports Games, and IESF World Esports Championships, among others.
