The Esports Advocate has confirmed through multiple sources that all 12 Call of Duty League teams have an open invite to attend the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III competition at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in August during the seventh week of the event, or roughly Aug. 15 – 18. Those dates are well after the CDL Championship Weekend—the biggest league-related obligation for teams in the foreseeable future—which runs from July 19 – 21.
As far as we know, no CDL team has officially announced their participation, but common sense would dictate that organizations who are partnered with the Esports World Cup Club Support Program would be likely to send their CDL teams to the event, as it is part of the overall club competition. The club competition uses an overall points system with the team earning the most at the end receiving the lion’s share of the total prize pool of $20M USD (first place earns $7M), in addition to whatever money they might earn from individual competition title wins.
Organizations in the club support program that also own a CDL franchise include FaZe Clan (Atlanta FaZe), 100 Thieves (LA Thieves), G2 Esports (Minnesota ROKKR), and KOI/OverActive Media (Toronto Ultra). Again, it is important to note that these (and other) CDL teams have not officially announced participation.
Beyond the CDL franchises, four additional teams will be able to qualify for inclusion in the Modern Warfare III competition, though details on the timing of those qualifiers are yet to be announced. Details on the Warzone competition leading into the Esports World Cup have not been revealed either, as of this writing.
On a related note, the Esports World Cup announced Thursday that it had extended the deadline for partnered teams to sign rosters for both the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty Warzone competitions, with the new deadline bumped up to June 27:
